Successfully indwelled Mini midline catheter for a 93-year-old patient

Recently, the Department of Thoracic Surgery of People's Hospital of Wuhan University welcomed a 93-year-old patient grandma Wang with esophageal foreign bodies - who lives in Yujiatou was stuck in the esophagus by chicken bones and could not eat through the mouth. Because of older age, poor vascular elasticity, poor nutritional status, loose skin, it was a challenge to indwell IV catheter for her . Thought, successfully inserted the IV , the redness and swelling occured just one day use of IV because of the higher concentration of nutritional drugs. It cost two IV catheters after two days of treatment, increasing the pain and spending of patient. After communicating with the chief doctor about the follow-up treatment plan, in order to alleviate the pain of Grandma Wang, Chief Nurse Xiong Juan fully communicated with the patient and her families , she decided to place a Mini midline catheter for grandma Wang after obtaining their consent.

Chief nurse Xiong Juan who has rich experience, good patience, standard operation skills, successfully inserted a Mini midline for grandma Wang. Blood return, tube flushing and infusing smoothly in Mini midline, she was recognized and praised by the patients.

Mini midline catheter, is an intravenous catheter with a length of 8-10cm, which can meet the use of a treatment cycle of 1-4 weeks, which can not only reduce the harm to the patient during catheterization, but also has the benefit figures of minor complications and long treatment cycle.
